Tübingen, den 14.1.2013
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with interest in immunology to infection.
Our laboratory, Junior Research Group “Infection Immunology”, part of the Interfaculty Institute for Cell Biology of the University of Tübingen (Germany), is interested in the role of dendric cells upon bacterial infections.
The projects aims to discover how bacterial pathogens affect the homeostasis of dendritic cells and their progenitors. Dendritic cells (DCs) are key players of the adaptive immune response and important components in immunity against infections. The projects is based on previous findings (Autenrieth et al. PLoS Pathogens 2010) that systemic infection with the model pathogen Yersinia enterocolitica (Ye) causes a pronounced reduction of the number of splenic DCs.

Applicants must have a master degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry or related filed. Candidates should have a strong background in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry and microbiology. Previous experience in in vivo experiments is an advantage. Team work and autonomy are prerequisites for this position.
Excellent communication (oral and written) skills and enthusiasm for science are expected. High level English is essential.

We offer a mentoring program within the Interfaculty Graduate School of Infection Biology and Microbiology (IGIM) providing a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary, structured education of post graduate students including qualified mentoring and quality concepts.
The three year PhD position is available starting from March 2013 and will be paid according to the regulations of the civil service collective wage agreement (TV-L 50% of level E13).
Applications must include a cover letter, CV, copies of high school and university exams, and two letters of reference. Please send your application as one pdf file to stella.autenrieth@medizin.uni-tuebingen.de
